There has been much discussion today about the fact that two other recall petitions have suddenly been filed ahead of our Stop The Abuse – Recall Kate Brown recall petition, which is scheduled for filing right after the primary election and which has been organizing since right after the 2019 recall effort.
It should be noted that it is an easy thing to file a recall petition in Oregon. Any voter can do it at just about any time. It is a much more difficult and complicated thing to make it successful. Foremost is the timing. It has to be done at exactly the right time to have a chance. Waiting until after the primary election was a deliberate decision on our part to avoid interfering with candidate campaigns.
While it is unfortunate that there will now be more than one recall petition, because it causes confusion for voters, it also has the benefit of helping to raise awareness with voters, which is a good thing. We all want Kate Brown removed from office and almost all interested voters will eagerly sign all recall petitions made available to them. The key is to make sure they don’t sign the same recall petition twice. And we own the solution to that problem!
Over the last six months we have been building a mobile app that allows our petition circulators to instantly verify whether a potential signer is a registered voter, what their registered address is, and whether they have already signed our petition. This gives our petition in-the-field, immediate validation of voter signatures and virtually eliminates the possibility of signing our petition twice. It also helps ensure that the signatures we submit to the Secretary of State will be nearly 100% valid.
I can tell you we learned much in Round 1 of the recall effort about what worked and what didn’t! That knowledge has enabled us over the last 6 months to develop a winning strategy (including timing), a solid campaign infrastructure, an army of dedicated and loyal volunteers, and the circulator tools, materials and resources to get the job done. We will be hitting the ground running, and we are excited you have chosen to be a part of it. We will be making history together when we remove Oregon’s tyrannical governor.
Remember, we came close in Round 1. This time we only need to close the gap.
Note: By law, recall petitions from different filers cannot be combined. But because voters will almost always sign multiple recall petitions to remove the same office holder the real issue is making sure they only sign each recall petition once. Our new mobile app does just that.
We know that many of you completed the volunteer form many weeks ago. Please accept our apologies for not reaching out sooner. We’ve been busy planning, structuring, and organizing…while also waiting for the volunteer list to grow.
The GREAT news is that we are nearly ready…with exciting changes that will make this much more organized, and much easier than last year. (How about immediate petition validation via a phone app? Pretty cool, right?)
We will be providing your contact information to the point of contact for your county within the next week or so, and from there, they should be reaching out to you. Please be watching for text messages, phone calls, and/or emails (and be sure to check your junk folders).
Should you NOT hear from your county point of contact by June 8, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. You may also use this email address for any other questions or concerns regarding the recall petition.
Due to Governor Brown’s strict “Stay Home / Save Lives” order, and cancelling all summer events for 2020, in-person signing events and locations might be a little more difficult. However, our additional hope is that we will be financially able to mail single-signer petitions to those that would like them. The cost to do so is approximately $0.61 per petition including postage, envelope, and printing costs. We are working diligently to find donors willing to help with the associated costs of the mailings and our intent is to have a very combined approach of phone calls (to direct signers to a nearby location to sign), and the ability to mail petitions to those that are not able to sign at one of our locations.
We appreciate your PASSION, and your willingness to volunteer your time and efforts to help with removing the WORST GOVERNOR IN OREGON HISTORY!
Please do continue to keep an eye on our Facebook Page and our Website for additional updates!
Correction of Misinformation: In recent weeks several recall volunteers were asked why we hadn’t filed yet. They responded, based on the Secretary of State’s prominent “Due to COVID-19 we are closed to the public” banner on their website, that the SoS office was not open and that we therefore could NOT file. Yesterday I learned that at some point the Elections Division started accepting appointments and that we could have actually filed (although we would not have done so due to the pending primary election). This incorrect response by the volunteers was my mistake, not theirs, since I hadn’t verified that the Elections Division was still closed. As the chief petitioner, it is important that I take responsibility for this confusion and help correct it.
There has been much speculation in this Facebook group and around Oregon about when we would file the recall petition to remove Governor Brown.
And though the COVID-19 situation would have prevented us from successfully gathering signatures earlier, we are now looking at the best time of year to circulate petitions! Thankfully, Oregonians are on the move again, despite the governor’s false “Stay Home, Save Lives” mantra and her unlawful and unconstitutional executive orders. They have figured it out: Her actions have little to do with a public health threat and much to do with control over our lives.
Now, finally, after all the preparation and hard work of many dedicated volunteers since late last year, I am excited to share that we will be filing the petition to recall Governor Kate Brown shortly after the May 19 primary election. The exact date depends on a few strategic factors, but it will be very soon afterward so we maximize the summer months.
It should be stated that waiting until after the primary election is over to file greatly increases our potential for success for two reasons. 1) The recall effort is not a distraction from, nor is it distracted by, the candidate campaigns and 2) Many more volunteers are available.
If you haven’t yet filled out a volunteer form, please do so soon. We only have a little time left before starting. You can access the form by clicking HERE.
Yesterday’s hugely successful ReOpenOregon rally at the Capitol, with thousands in attendance despite the heavy rain at times, made it even more clear that Oregonian’s are fed up with Governor Brown and want her removed from office, ASAP!
The Governor’s manipulation of the COVID-19 situation to unlawfully and unconstitutionally attempt to strip us of our freedoms, including the right to even file a recall petition, will not be tolerated. We will NOT consent to it.
The Governor has set impossible standards for re-opening Oregon – ones that will destroy our economy without saving lives or reducing the COVID-19 threat. It is clear that this is not about public health, but about control.
The Advisory Group met this evening to discuss next steps for Round 2 of the recall. While we cannot currently file, we are vigorously pursuing our options, both legal and political, and will NOT be deterred from filing.
In the meantime we are partnering with other groups in the state and at the national level to enforce our right to seek redress and to block/reverse the Governor’s tyrannical actions. The US AG’s office is monitoring the situation.
The Governor’s illegal Executive Orders will not be able to hold Oregon down. With activity in all sectors increasing daily we believe that the day is fast approaching when we can start collecting signatures. And do it successfully.
Are you ready to help? WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT NOW.
Please watch for posts in our Facebook group requesting volunteers for a variety of tasks that need to be performed – some in our office and some from home. Please also watch for posts on our Facebook page, and email requests from Stop the Abuse, regarding raising money for Round 2. Thank you for your commitment to ending tyranny in Oregon!
